# Elderly PMA user crosses Yishun road despite red man, Stomper says it ‘could have led to an accident’

Personal Mobility Aids (PMAs) have helped old folks with mobility issues get around more easily, but road safety remains a concern.

A Stomper spotted an elderly man on a PMA crossing a road in Yishun at around 6.30am on Oct 7, despite the pedestrian light being red.

Instead of waiting for the green man, the elderly rider proceeded across a pedestrian crossing along Yishun Avenue 4.

“He was impatient about waiting for the green man and tried to cross the road when the light was red,” said the Stomper. “If drivers failed to see him, it could have led to an accident.”

The Stomper claimed that drivers honked at the elderly man as he crossed the road, although no honking sounds could be heard in the video.

Asked why he decided to share this incident, the Stomper said: “Elderly PMA users must remember to practise patience. Waiting for the green man could save their lives.”

According to the Traffic Police (TP), pedestrians who ignore the red pedestrian light at crossings may be subject to a $50 fine.

In its Annual Road Traffic Situation 2025 report, TP shared that the number of elderly pedestrians involved in fatal accidents had more than doubled compared with 2024.

Jaywalking was a major cause of fatal accidents, with the elderly accounting for 83.3 per cent of such deaths.
