Elderly man and family accused of taking 24 free meals daily at Chinatown stall -- but eatery says there's enough for all

He calls him the "number ONE gangster" of Chinatown.

A Stomper has accused an elderly man of abusing the free food distribution at a vegetarian stall in Chinatown by repeatedly jumping the queue and collecting what he claims are up to 24 packets of food in a day.

The stall in question is Yuan Yuan Vegetarian Cuisine (YYVC) at Chinatown Complex Food Centre, which is known for giving back to the community by providing free meals.

Stomper Philip said the man shows up at every giveaway, allegedly bringing his wife, adult son and a deaf lady at staggered timings to secure spots in line before it begins at 4.30pm.

"I came at 12pm to be first in line," Philip said.

"He came shortly after. Then his wife came at 2pm, the deaf lady at 3pm and his son at 4pm."

He added that this has happened on multiple occasions.

"He took four packets of food at first - including rice, mee, drinks and dessert - then went back in to get two more," he alleged.

"His family followed him to the front of the queue each time. Altogether, they took 24 packets that day."

The Stomper shared a recent occasion when he came early to be first in queue but accused the elderly man and his companions of cutting in.

"I became number four," he said. "Angry."

He shared that the senior allegedly shouted vulgarities at him after Philip 'kicked' him out of the 'illegal line'.

"He wanted to fight with me by throwing trays, there were four trays on the floor and he refused to pick them up," he said.

"Only his sad wife picked them all up before he rushed into the queue again to take two packets of dry mee.

"He had picked up a total of eight packets of food and drinks.

"He is greedy, cunning, has a bad temper and is a quarreler.

"He doesn't care for other poor Chinatown people who have no meals to eat.

"His wife told me he doesn't even eat it all and throws away so much food at home."

When contacted, a representative from YYVC told Stomp the allegations were not entirely true.

"YYVC has been giving away free dinner in Chinatown for many years," they said.

"Residents can collect their second pack of food if they need more by joining the back of the queue after they have collected the first pack.

"During the distribution, people just want to rush and push forward to grab the food.

"This is just a small issue as we do prepare enough food for all."
