Company, director fined $12k each for selling 768kg of ginseng chicken stew before SFA's inspection
Food manufacturer SL Foods had imported about 768kg of ginseng chicken stew from Korea in July 2022.
However, it failed to arrange for the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) to inspect, examine and certify the consignment. Instead, it proceeded to sell the products.
The company, a licensed food importer, was fined $12,000 on Jan 13 for the offence.
Its director, Jin Hyun Wook, was also fined $12,000 for failing to prevent the offence from being committed.
SFA said: "In Singapore, importers are required to arrange for imported meat products to be inspected, examined and certified by an authorised examiner before it is sold, distributed or exported.
"Meat products which are found to be unfit for human consumption will be seized and disposed."
Offenders who fail to arrange for their meat consignments to be inspected, examined and certified by an authorised examiner before sale or distribution may be fined up to $10,000 and/or jailed up to 12 months.
Those who sell meat consignments that have not been inspected may be fined up to $50,000 and/or jailed up to two years. Repeat offenders may be fined up to $100,000 and/or jailed up to three years.
