Bedok stairwell turns into storage space for bulky items, town council to engage resident
The town council will be engaging a resident about the removal of items cluttering a stairwell at Block 524 Bedok North Street 3.
Stomper Anonymous said the stairwell has been "used as a storage space" since 2021.
Sharing photos and a video, Anonymous told Stomp: "Various bulky items such as trolleys, strollers and delivery bags are cluttering the staircase landing, creating a fire and safety hazard.
"In an emergency, this obstruction may hinder evacuation for residents. I hope this can be highlighted so that action will be taken to ensure the safety of residents."
In response to a Stomp query, a spokesperson for Aljunied-Hougang Town Council said it is aware of the situation.
"The town council will be engaging the resident regarding the removal of items stored on the staircase and its landing," the spokesperson added.
"We urge all residents not to clutter common areas as obstructions can hinder emergency evacuations and delay access for relevant personnel during critical situations."
