7 men arrested for rioting at Jalan Besar, 29-year-old man suffers multiple lacerations to his face

Seven men, aged between 23 and 49, have been arrested for rioting, the police said in a statement on Tuesday (June 13).

The police were alerted to a fight between two groups along Jalan Besar on Monday (June 12) at about 12.50am.

A 29-year-old man sustained multiple lacerations on his lips and chin and was taken conscious to the hospital.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the altercation arose after an alleged dispute which happened earlier.

Officers identified the men involved and arrested them.

Five of them will be charged in court on Wednesday (June 14) with the offence of rioting which carries a jail term of up to seven years, and caning.

Two other men are assisting with investigations.

Police investigations are ongoing against all parties involved.
