Six coffee shops that failed to keep their toilets clean and in good repair were suspended a day on Feb 21 by the Singapore Food Agency (SFA).

Two of the coffee shops, Al Mubin Restaurant at Syed Alwi Road and Teck Seng coffee shop at Balestier Road, also failed to maintain sanitary fittings in good working condition and repair.

Both accumulated 12 demerit points within a 12-month period and was fined a total of $1,100 for the offences.

For failing to keep their toilets clean and in good repair, 27A Coffee Shop at Geylang Road, 7 Stars at Sumang Link and Teck Wah at Lorong 7 Toa Payoh were fined $1,300.

Another eatery, 1002 Food Court in Toa Payoh Industrial Park, also failed to provide toilet paper and soap in the toilet and was fined $1,200.

SFA said that food business operators should observe good food and personal hygiene practices at all times. These include engaging only registered food handlers and ensuring upkeep and maintenance of licensed premises, including toilets within.
